I've succumbed to a reality which i previously refused to recognise.
SMSes are cumbersome.
Brilliant they are, of course, in being a convenient way of leaving messages. It's quick and easy for the sender, accessible anytime for the recipient.
But when it comes to having conversations via SMSes, wah they're cumbersome alright.
Basically, it's a slow mode of communication. Tortoise slow.
Messages aren't always read soon upon reception. Time to reply is also needed. Sometimes the SMSes even lag in transit. Something which takes a normal speaking conversation 2.5 minutes to convey can take 1 hour for SMS to get across. Damn, that's watching grass grow kind of slow.
So SMSes are good if i want to drop you some details which would otherwise require you to get pen and paper to write it down. They're good if i want to disseminate information to multiple parties. They're good if i've got some cool fancy message that i want to share. And they're fair enough if you want a short, unhurried, one-message reply. The rest of their benefits... are really quite questionable.
Conversely, calls are virtually immediate, establish better understanding, and are definitely more human.
calls pwn sms
So the next time you've got stuff to tell me, if you can, give me a call. I'd like that.
Now go read the title of the post before this one. Bye!
